A day of unforgettable fun along the banks of the South Fork of the Shenandoah

Paddle Art Contest

The Shenandoah Riverfest Committee is once again sponsoring a “Paddle Art Competition” to help promote river awareness and the Shenandoah Riverfest.  Artists of all ages are encouraged to participate in this exciting opportunity to showcase the Shenandoah River and our local artistic talent.  In keeping with the mission of the festival we are asking that your artwork reflect the river as it connects to you or affects your life and/or community.

Pick up your paddle from Sun Studio Framing located at 201B E. Jackson Street in Front Royal, VA beginning April 1, 2014.  There is a $20 deposit on each paddle which will be refunded upon the return of the paddle.  The paddle will become property of the Shenandoah Riverfest committee and will be sold as a fundraiser for the Shenandoah Riverkeeper, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Let you imagination be your guide!  Paddles may be embellished in any matter or medium – paint, collage, photography, mosaic, woodburning – you get the idea, get creative and explore different mediums.  You may use both sides of the blade of the paddle, including the shaft and handle. However, only one side of the paddle will be displayed.

Complete your paddle and return it to Sun Studio Framing on or before July 31, 2014 for display leading up to the festival on August 9, 2014. On the day of the festival the paddles will be taken to the event site and offered for sale to the public.

There are two categories for judging: Students K-12 and Adult. One winner will be chosen in each category. Please indicate on the registration form if you wish for your paddle to be judged.

Entry is limited to 35 paddles so get your paddle soon! The Shenandoah Riverfest committee reserves the right not to display any work that is deemed inappropriate.
